Zagreb, May 2024

Our Training School “Bridging Language in Criminal Procedures with Participatory Action Research” took place in Zagreb, Croatia, alongside MC Meetings and Working Group sessions. The aim of the Training School was to deepen our multidisciplinary team’s understanding of linguistic challenges within the criminal justice system across Europe.

The training featured speakers from various European universities, including the University of Zagreb, University of Milano Bicocca, and York St John University, as well as professionals from organizations like the Croatian High Criminal Court and the UK Youth Offending Team Managers.

Topics covered included language needs in adolescence, challenges to youth justice services, language teaching in prisons, language assessments, and child-friendly justice systems. The event concluded with an interactive workshop by Ellena Vachelli from the University of Greenwich, on incorporating audiovisual tools into research design.
