Short Term Scientific Missions

Our Action actively promotes Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) to foster scientific collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the transfer of skills between members. These missions broaden the interdisciplinary expertise needed to address the complex goals of our network.

STSMs involve a research visit to a host organisation in a different country from the applicant’s home institution. These visits are focused on a specific work package and last for a defined period. STSMs are an excellent opportunity to bring interdisciplinary knowledge to Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITCs) and Near Neighbour Countries (NNCs), strengthening our collective effort.

By enhancing collaboration and expertise, STSMs help us advance the objectives of our Action, namely, empowering children and adolescents to effectively participate in justice proceedings in Europe and beyond.

STSMs carried out in 2023-2024:

Ferid Azemi, Kosovo Academy of Public Safety, visited University of St. Kliment Ohridski-Bitola, Faculty of Security, Skopje, North Macedonia, 24 June-2 July 2024.

Marta Manenti, from University of Tours, INSERM, France, visited Prof Lana Peto Kujundžić, at the High Criminal Court in Republic Croatia, 7 – 12 October 2024.

Margreet Vogelzang, Newcastle University, United Kingdom, visited the Department of Psychology, University of Milano Bicocca, Italy, 16-25 September 2024.

Dr Marta Manenti, an early Career Researcher from the University of Tours, France visited Croatia in October 2024

“I am extremely grateful to the COST Action Y-JustLang for providing me with the opportunity to learn about juvenile justice in the Republic of Croatia through a study visit organized by the Association of Youth and Family Judges and Specialists (AYFJS) of Zagreb. The experience of this STSM has exceeded my expectations, as it allowed me to better understand how to foster collaborations between the different working groups involved in the action and to promote future collaborative endeavors for continuous scientific progress.”

Dr Margreet Vogelzang, an early Career Researcher from the University of Newcastle, UK, says about her STSM

“The Y-JustLang STSM offered me the opportunity to visit the Department of Psychology at the University of Milano-Bicocca, work with excellent researchers in my field, and focus for an extended period of time on achieving our Working Group’s objectives and deliverables. I am confident that this visit will lead to more collaborations between our departments in the future.”
